One meter, compared with the usual ones

Most data-movement pricing taxes something you want more of. Waltail meters the one number you can verify yourself — bytes arriving in your systems.

Questions

What exactly is metered?

Egress: the gigabytes delivered to your sinks in a calendar month, summed across all sinks and including retries. Capture is free, and a delivered gigabyte is roughly five million typical row changes.

Is there a per-connector or per-sink fee?

No. Sinks, pipelines, tables and seats are unlimited on every plan. One source fanning out to six destinations costs the same as one destination at the same volume.

What happens when I go over my included volume?

On Pro and Scale, extra gigabytes bill at $0.50 each in arrears, and the console warns you at 80% and 100% of the allowance. On Free there is no overage: upgrade when you need more.

Are backfills extra?

No separate fee. A backfill delivers the current rows of a table through your sinks, so it meters as egress like any other delivery — and nothing starts until you have seen the estimated rows and gigabytes and confirmed. Backfills are included on every plan, Free too.

Do I need a credit card for the free tier?

No. Sign in with your email, connect a database and stream to any destination. Upgrade from the console when a production workload outgrows 1 GB a month.

How does this compare with per-connector or per-row pricing?

Those models charge for the things you want more of — destinations, busy tables, teammates. Waltail charges for delivered bytes only, with every sink, pipeline and seat included, and a $29 entry plan with 100 GB rather than a platform minimum in the hundreds of dollars. See why Waltail.

Does Waltail store my row data?

Changes are stored in Waltail's own database for the retention window of your plan so they can be retried and replayed, then dropped. The change data is never sold or used for anything other than delivering it to your sinks.

What is the delivery guarantee?

At-least-once, with a unique idempotency key in every message and strict ordering per row. A change is acknowledged to your database only after it is durably stored, and it is retried with backoff until your sink accepts it.

Which Postgres versions and hosts work?

PostgreSQL 12 and newer with logical replication enabled — RDS and Aurora, Supabase, Neon, Cloud SQL, Azure, Railway, or your own server. See the connection guide.

How do I leave?

Downgrade or cancel from the console at any time. Deleting a pipeline drops the replication slot and publication Waltail created on your database, so nothing is left behind.
